No win no fee

Find out more

No win, no fee is a term that you may have heard many times. But what does it actually mean?

Firstly, don’t worry. It’s not designed to catch you out. A no win, no fee arrangement simply means you won’t pay a penny if your compensation claim is unsuccessful.

Here’s how it works. You will usually be asked to take out an insurance policy that will protect you against paying your legal fees if your case is unsuccessful, so your solicitors will recover their costs through insurance. You pay nothing.

Customers typically pay a 25% success fee out of the compensation amount awarded for a successful claim. This may vary but will always be agreed with your solicitors upfront.

A no win, no fee agreement will protect you and ensure that if you don’t win your claim, you won’t pay a penny.

Frequently asked questions

In some rare circumstances, an alternative to no win, no fee may be available to you. For example, if you belong to a trade union, you may already have access to free legal cover. Or you may have legal cover as part of a different policy, such as home or small business insurance.

If these options are available to you, it’s worth discussing with the solicitor we connect you with. It may save your solicitor having to take out insurance in order to work with you, which means you will get to keep more of your compensation if your case is successful.

Finally, it’s worth knowing that in very rare circumstances, no win, no fee terms aren’t possible. If that’s the case with your claim, your solicitor will tell you before you begin working together and will explain what other options available – so you can make an informed decision about what to do next and whether to proceed.

It’s totally understandable that you might be eager to know how much compensation you
may be entitled to. The truth is that it could vary from a few hundred pounds to hundreds of thousands of pounds. It all depends on what happened to you, how serious your injuries were and who was at fault. So until we know more about your accident, it’s hard to say how much compensation you might receive.

What we will say is this: one of the things that makes Accident Compensation Helpline unique is that we work with a hand-selected panel of expert injury claims solicitors – and we match our customers’ cases to the solicitors who are experienced at handling those types of accident.
